Some days I just cant make it away from the house as I have too much of the “real world” to take care of. So today I spent 15 min wandering the back yard with some extension tubes and a prime lens with the single purpose of a bit of poor man’s macro photography.
Pining Away
For those that dont know a prime lens does not have the ability to “zoom” in or out. So you the photographer have to move closer or further away from your object. The plus side of a prime lens is a very nice sharp image.
Extension tubes give any lens the ability to be closer to an object and focus on it than they normally would. There is of course a trade off… but quite often photography is about compromise. Mixing a prime lens with an extension tube often make for a very nice macro lens. I can get a lot more magnification but sometimes its just nice to go with “just a bit”.
